Welcome to READ 3311: Literacy I

Course Description

Candidates enrolled in READ 3311 will demonstrate background knowledge of reading and language arts concepts, including the science of reading, Common Core State Standards, and the principles of reading instruction. Appropriate teaching strategies using text and non-text based methods designed to involve the learner actively in basic skills as well as those of higher order thinking will also be explored. (Please see the syllabus for a more detailed description.)

Beyond the focal areas detailed above, there will be a great deal of focus given to the following topics:
  • Lesson planning and delivery
  • Technology integration
  • Standards implementation
  • Place-based/problem-based learning (PBL)
  • Cross-curricular integration
  • Assessment for and of instruction
  • Teacher Performance Assessment module (EdTPA)

    • Full admission to the Teacher Education Program at TTU

    • FOED 3810
  • Notes:
    • You must receive a B or better in READ 3311 & FOED 3810 in order to proceed to Residency I
    • You must pass pass 3 of the 4 required Praxis II exams before being admitted into Residency II. Exam scores must be submitted to the Office of Teacher Education by early December.
